What You Should Submit

Submit a solo monologue that fits the criteria of your chosen category: Contemporary – from a published play written in the last 70 years, Classical – from an Elizabethan or Jacobean play (e.g. Shakespeare or his contemporaries), Screen – from a published film or TV script, Original – written or devised entirely by you.
Your monologue should be performed on video, and around 1.5 to 2 minutes in length
Make sure your speeches are fully and accurately learned
All monologues should be performed in the English language. This ensures consistency for judging across all entries
You’re welcome to submit multiple monologues or enter more than one category – discounts apply for multiple entries
Make sure to read the detailed guidance on each category page so you know exactly what’s required for your monologue and what you should avoid. Each category has specific expectations – so check carefully before you record and submit.

Guidance and Tips

Choose a piece you connect with.
Select a character and situation you understand or relate to. Your connection to the material will make your performance more authentic.
Understand the context.
Whether it’s a play, screenplay, or original piece, know what’s happening before the speech starts, and why your character is speaking.
Make clear performance choices.
Decide who your character is speaking to, what they want, and how they feel. Use your voice, facial expressions, and body language to communicate this.
Keep your performance focused.
Speak clearly, use your voice expressively, and stay connected emotionally. Avoid overacting or shouting – natural, grounded choices often land best.
Practice and refine.
Rehearse your speech out loud, film yourself, and review. Notice your tone, pace, and clarity – small changes can have a big impact.

Things to Avoid

Use age-appropriate material that reflects your voice, maturity, and experience
Keep swearing minimal and only if absolutely necessary for the piece – and be mindful of its impact
Steer clear of highly traumatic or emotionally extreme content unless you feel equipped to handle it responsibly
Don’t over rely on costumes or props.
Keep it simple – we want to focus on your acting, not what's around you.
Don’t mimic famous performances – make the monologue your own
